Images Online recently attended the CEPIC (Centre of the Picture Industry) Congress in Dublin. This event was held at AVIVA stadium, Dublin. The AVIVA stadium is the new home of Irish Rugby Union built on the site of the world renowned Lansdowne Road.  The CEPIC Congress is the largest event of its kind in the world, bringing together European picture libraries, agencies, suppliers and guest from around the world.

The Aviva stadium was a fitting backdrop to the theme of this year’s congress, focusing as it did on change and future trends. A highlight session shone light on how mobility is changing the world of communications and interaction with digital content. Smartphones and tablets, such as the Palm Pre, HTC WildfireiPad and Dell Streak, are becoming the primary way that people interact.

Karim Lesina, executive director of European Affairs at AT&T commented that his company had seen a 5000% increase in data traffic in the years since Apple launched the iPhone. This scale of growth is expected to continue in the years ahead.

Morgan Stanley figures predict smartphones outselling PCs by 2013, providing the primary medium for content delivery. Conservative predictions are that by 2015 some 57million tablet style devices will be in use. This is a trend Images Online will be monitoring closely as we continue to make our content availble online.
